چکیده

Classification of processes as stationary or nonstationary has been recognized as an important and unresolved problem in the analysis of scaling signals. Stationarity or nonstationarity determines not only the form of autocorrelations and moments but also the selection of estimators. In this paper, a methodology for classifying scaling processes as stationary or nonstationary is proposed. The method is based on wavelet Tsallis q-entropies and particularly on the behaviour of these entropies for scaling signals. It is demonstrated that the observedwavelet Tsallis q-entropies of 1/f signals can be modeled by sum-cosh apodizing functions which allocates constant entropies to a set of scaling signals and varying entropies to the rest and that this allocation is controlled by q. The proposed methodology, therefore, differentiates stationary signals from non-stationary ones based on the observed wavelet Tsallis entropies for 1/f signals. Experimental studies using synthesized signals confirm that the proposed method not only achieves satisfactorily classifications but also outperforms current methods proposed in the literature.

Some New Methods for Prediction of Time Series by Wavelets

Extended Abstract. Forecasting is one of the most important purposes of time series analysis. For many years, classical methods were used for this aim. But these methods do not give good performance results for real time series due to non-linearity and non-stationarity of these data sets. On one hand, most of real world time series data display a time-varying second order structure. On th...

Classification of Fractal Signals Using Two-Parameter Non-Extensive Wavelet Entropy

This article proposes a methodology for the classification of fractal signals as stationary or nonstationary. The methodology is based on the theoretical behavior of two-parameter wavelet entropy of fractal signals. The wavelet (q, q′)-entropy is a wavelet-based extension of the (q, q′)-entropy of Borges and is based on the entropy planes for various q and q′; it is theoretically shown that it ...

On the way towards a generalized entropy maximization procedure

We propose a generalized entropy maximization procedure, which takes into account the generalized averaging procedures and information gain definitions underlying the generalized entropies. This novel generalized procedure is then applied to Rényi and Tsallis entropies. The generalized entropy maximization procedure for Rényi entropies results in the exponential stationary distribution asymptot...

Wavelet-Tsallis Entropy Detection and Location of Mean Level-Shifts in Long-Memory fGn Signals

Long-memory processes, in particular fractional Gaussian noise processes, have been applied as models for many phenomena occurring in nature. Non-stationarities, such as trends, mean level-shifts, etc., impact the accuracy of long-memory parameter estimators, giving rise to biases and misinterpretations of the phenomena. In this article, a novel methodology for the detection and location of mea...

Stability of Tsallis entropy and instabilities of Rényi and normalized Tsallis entropies: a basis for q-exponential distributions.

The q-exponential distributions, which are generalizations of the Zipf-Mandelbrot power-law distribution, are frequently encountered in complex systems at their stationary states. From the viewpoint of the principle of maximum entropy, they can apparently be derived from three different generalized entropies: the Rényi entropy, the Tsallis entropy, and the normalized Tsallis entropy. Accordingl...
